ANZRS to be implemented on Royal Adelaide Hospital

The new Royal Adelaide Hospital (nRAH) will be Australia’s most advanced hospital and the single largest infrastructure project in the State’s history. The $1.85billion state of the art facility will be delivered as a Public Private Partnership under the State Governments SA Partnership Model. SA Health Partnership Consortium comprising Hansen Yuncken, Leighton Contractors and Spotless will undertake the financing, design, construction and operation of the nonclinical services of the hospital for 35 years. The Hansen Yuncken and Leighton Contractor Joint Venture (HYLC) will be responsible for the Design and Construction aspect of this significant project.

This landmark project is set to create a benchmark within Australia’s healthcare sector.
Hi-technology collaborative design solutions such as BIM along with a number of various initiatives will be implemented prior to construction.

The design consultant team is made up of Silver Thomas Hanley Design Inc, Walbridge and Gilbert , KBR, Bestec and Lehr Consultants International – each of which is using Autodesk Revit software.  Consequently, ANZRS is set to be applied to the digital components within the facility, as a means of ensuring that quality, robust, data-rich content is optimally utilised.

Chris Penn, BIM Manager for the HYLC Joint Venture is enthusiastic about implementing industry initiatives like ANZRS, and the AMCA’s BIM-MEPAUS initiative.

“On a job of this size and importance, there is a huge need for consistency and quality of information.  This extends to the informational and physical attributes of the virtual project.  We see initiatives like ANZRS as beneficial to the industry, and are keen to support them and their ongoing development.”

Penn also anticipates key benefits to the project and the project team, including reliability of data, interoperability and better navigation through it.

Implementation of ANZRS falls within the wider strategy for BIM use on the project.  Other aspects of the strategy include design analysis, movement/transition of data, environmental studies, design-to-fabrication workflows, construction planning and coordination, field-BIM, model tracking and deliveries, and the capture and re-use of data throughout construction for the penultimate goal of improved Facility Management throughout its life cycle.

In addition to ANZRS, the project team are set to use Content Studio, a content management tool designed to improve the workflows and informational exchanges associated with content development.
